Continuing with the objective of keeping the anemia rate low in communities in the Mountains of Ancash, a Peruvian NGO diversifies its nutrition program.
The NGO Misión Huascarán (MH), based in the Ancash mountains of Peru, actively maintains various programs that help reduce the rate of anemia and chronic malnutrition in Andean communities of Amashca, Canchapampa, Congar, Huashcao, Pariacaca and Punyan.
Therefore, Misión Huascarán, applying the 10 functional elements of their nutrition program, developed actions such as the production of 1,230 eggs, 31,200 iron-enriched bread rolls distributed, provided 150 nutritional counseling, 8 educational talks, 14 home visits, conducted 76 screenings for hemoglobin, 76 anthropometric evaluations, trained 15 guiding mothers and intervened in 5 school vegetable gardens and in 70 family vegetable gardens.
All this, with the intention of reducing the rate of anemia, which is essential to improve health, promote cognitive and educational development, increase labor and economic productivity, and guarantee healthy motherhood in the Peruvian population.
Let us remember that investing in the reduction of anemia is investing in a healthier, more inclusive, resilient, and successful world for all.
